More information

This Rugosa hybrid ranks among the most winter-hardy roses in the Explorer series; Jens Munk also performs well in hotter climates. It bears slightly cupped, semi-double, deep pink blooms with pale stamens. The reverse of the petals is slightly lighter, with occasional white streaks at the petal bases. Flowers are borne in small clusters of 2–5 on short stems; hips develop in autumn, while the plant flowers in waves throughout summer, with particularly strong autumn bloom. The shrub is vigorous, arching, and resistant to black spot, though susceptible to powdery mildew. Foliage is typical of Rugosa. Jens Munk is widely grown in Canada and Scandinavia. Propagation by green cuttings is straightforward.

Flowering is prolonged; under favorable conditions, almost continuous. Winter hardiness is high.

A Rugosa hybrid from the Explorer series with high winter hardiness. Bright pink buds open to semi-double, saucer-shaped blooms about 7 cm across. The flowers are bright pink, fading to a paler pink, with white streaks on the petals and a cluster of bright yellow stamens. It blooms in early summer, followed by fairly profuse repeat waves. Shoots are arching; the foliage is bright green, glossy, and develops notable autumn coloration. The shrub is branched and rounded; when young it may splay, but over time it becomes very dense. Disease resistance is high.
