More information
The basic color of Janina is orange, but on closer inspection the bloom displays many nuanced shades. Newly opened petals are vivid orange to scarlet, with a yellow reverse and yellow streaks on the inner petals. As the flowers open fully, a bright yellow eye appears in the center along with golden stamens. Later, the yellow tone fades and the bloom shifts to a more salmon pink with a creamy reverse. Flowers are well-formed at all stages, although the petals are not very long; they are borne on long, strong shoots suitable for cutting. Suitable for flowerbeds; the dark foliage shows disease resistance, though black spot may occur later in the year.
Buds are long and pointed. Flowers are salmon-orange with a yellow base; the outer side of the petals is yellow-orange, later changing to apricot-pink; well-formed, large (10 cm), double (40–45 petals), fragrant, borne singly and in small inflorescences. Leaves are dark green, glossy, and healthy; young foliage has anthocyanin coloration. Shoots are sturdy, moderately spiny. Bush 70–80 cm tall; dense, smooth, slightly spreading. Flowering is very abundant, uniform, early. Winter-resistant. For group plantings and for cutting. Int. GBS in 1977 .
