More information
Irene av Denmark was among the most common and popular polyanthus roses for many years following its 1948 introduction. It is a profusely flowering rose, commonly used in flowerbeds. The flowers are pink-tinged at first but quickly turn pure white. The petals are thin and delicate, so they do not withstand weather well, yet they are produced in large numbers. The flowers are notable at the moment when the petals first begin to unfurl. They appear in clusters of 3–9 blooms. The bush is low, compact, and vigorous. The foliage is dark and shades the petals, but it is susceptible to black spotting. Despite this, the rose remains popular.
The variety is similar to Iceberg and is described as having comparatively fuller foliage. The flowers are pure white with a lemon tinge.
