More information

Rosa horrida Fisch. ex Crép. is a white species rose. Flowers are small, about 2.5 cm in diameter, with 5 petals and a single bloom form, borne mostly solitary or in small clusters. It flowers once in spring or summer. The plant has a short, dense, well-branched habit with small foliage and 5 to 7 leaflets, and it is armed with thorns or prickles. Typical height and width are about 60 cm. It is reported as hardy in USDA zones 6b through 9b. The name Rosa horrida Besser ex Fisch. Cat. Jard. Pl. Gorenki 66 was published in 1812. Later combinations include Rosa horrida Fisch. ex Crép. (1872, an illegitimate later homonym) and Rosa turcica Rouy (1896). Kew’s Plants of the World Online and GBIF treat the earlier name Rosa horrida as illegitimate.
