More information
Helmut Schmidt is a variety that blooms almost continuously. Flowers open lemon-yellow and fade to lemon-cream, with paler petal edges. Blooms appear singly or in clusters of up to 4. Suitable for exhibition and cutting, as stems last a long time in water. Petals are broad and dense, tolerant of rain; the plant also tolerates bright sun and reaches 1.5 m or more in hot climates. Foliage is large, disease-resistant, dark, glossy; shoots are nearly thornless. The variety is named in honour of the Chancellor of Germany.
Buds are elongated. Flowers are bright yellow with lighter petal edges, long-lasting, high-centred, large (11–12 cm), double (30 petals), fragrant, solitary, on sturdy, medium-length pedicels. Leaves are abundant, dark green, leathery, shiny. Shrubs are erect. Flowering ranges from moderate to profuse. For groups, cutting, and bush culture.
