Heinrich Schulheitz founded the first German rose nursery. His nursery remains one of the largest in Europe and turned his hometown of Steinfürz into the centre of the "rose" industry. By 1970, the town contained 210 nurseries producing 14 million seedlings per year. The rose was bred by Henry Burnett and is a strong-growing, compact remontant hybrid. Its flowers are cup-shaped, densely margined, opening from globular buds. They appear singly, sometimes in tight clusters of 2–3 pcs, on short, strong pedicels that keep the blooms from drooping. The flowers sit within the foliage as in Portland roses, and the variety is among the earliest to bloom. It was widely known in its time and remains popular, with repeat flowering more abundant than in most remontant hybrids. Several pale-coloured cultivars derive from this rose, including Paul’s Early Blush and Mr Harkness.
