More information
Over the last 20 years, pillow roses have become popular, and among them Heidesommer is noted for its fragrance. The scent is strong, vivid, sweet, and noticeable from a considerable distance; it attracts bees. Flowers are rain-resistant—creamy at first, quickly fading to white—and open from buds of a delicate cream color. The reverse of the petals retains a creamy tint. Flowers are semi-double, with dark yellow stamens at the center, produced in very large numbers, in clusters (sprays) of 5–25. Heidesommer blooms late, then flowers almost continuously until late autumn. Sprays hold well when cut. The shrub is spreading and well-branched. Foliage is small, dark, glossy, and disease-resistant. Suitable for the foreground of a border. Can be used to lighten a dark corner of the garden.
Large sprays of creamy-white buds open to reveal golden stamens. The flowers are very fragrant and keep well in a vase. A strong-growing, disease-resistant variety, up to 1.5 m tall, with abundant light green foliage. Tolerates semi-shade.
