Rosa gymnocarpa Nutt., also known as Little Woods Rose or R. gymnocarpa, is a species/wild rose with pink, single flowers of about 3.2 cm in diameter and 5 petals. Blooms are small to medium, borne mostly solitary or in small clusters, and it flowers once in spring or summer. The plant has a short, bushy, upright habit with matte, medium green foliage composed of 5 to 9 leaflets, and can reach 100 to 300 cm in height. It grows in USDA zones 6b through 9b, is vigorous, produces decorative hips, and is tolerant of shade. It is a diploid species and is native to the northwestern United States from northern California north into Canada, with bright red hips and yellow fall color. It was introduced around 1893 under the name Rosa gymnocarpa Nutt. by an unknown introducer.
