More information
Golden Showers is an early-flowering variegated rose suited to mild climates. Buds open golden yellow, then fade to lemon, sometimes to cream. Blooms are semi-double with wavy petals and red stamens at the center. They appear singly or in small clusters at the ends of long shoots, usually in groups of 3–5. After a heavy first flush, flowers continue in clusters of 1–2 through summer until a second heavy flush in autumn. Suitable for cutting. Shoots are thick; foliage is glossy, bright green, and somewhat susceptible to black spot. Can be hard-pruned and trained as a bush. In England it is widely grown; the flowers are rain tolerant and, in hot climates, fairly shade tolerant.
This large-flowered variegated rose performs in warm climates. Elongated bright yellow buds produce 8–10 cm blooms with a cluster of golden stamens in the center. Flowers are initially bright yellow and high-centered, then open into semi-double blooms with wavy petals and fade to cream. Blooms at multiple stages are present on the plant at the same time, creating a two-color effect. Flowers appear singly or in clusters, with a heavy flush in early summer followed by moderate waves in summer and often a second heavy flush in autumn. The plant is vigorous, reaching 200–300 cm. Young plants are quite branched, and with strong pruning the cultivar can be maintained in bush form. Disease resistance is average.
This relatively low climber bears large, semi-double, soft yellow flowers with wavy petals and red stamens, profusely in early summer and then again in early autumn. Although the cultivar prefers full sun, it tolerates partial shade and suits north-facing walls. With periodic pruning of the shoots, it can be grown as a large shrub. Sensitive to cold and better adapted to southern regions.
Shade tolerant variety.
