More information
Fruhlingsmorgen bears large, unbranched flowers at the tips of long, curved shoots. Initially rich pink with a cream centre and red stamens, they fade within a couple of days to pale pink or white. The long, dark stamens are conspicuous. The foliage is small and thin, susceptible to black spot, and the shoots are not very prickly. In Germany, where the cultivar was bred, the main bloom occurs in spring, with single flowers appearing sporadically until autumn.
This spinosissima hybrid produces unbrushed, saucer-shaped flowers 7–10 cm in diameter with clusters of reddish or orange stamens. Colour ranges from bright to delicate pink with a soft yellow or cream centre, depending on the weather. Moderately fragrant flowers appear once per season in late spring, with a possible weak re-bloom in autumn. Dark grey-green leaves cover moderately spiny, arching shoots. The shrub is fairly open and branching. It is disease resistant, though it can suffer from black spot.
Shade-tolerant variety.
