More information
Among the Frühlings roses bred by Wilhelm Cordes between 1930 and 1940, Frühlingsduft is characterized by distinctive colouring and a pronounced fragrance. The colour varies with the weather, usually a pale creamy yellow with a pink patina. The pink typically covers the outside of the petals, while the creamy tone remains inside, creating a play of light and shadow between the petals. Flowers appear on short stems, singly or in clusters of up to 5, and the variety continues to bloom intermittently through summer and autumn, being among the first to start flowering. The foliage is small and somewhat susceptible to black spot. The bush is tall, with arc-shaped curved shoots; young growth carries red spines that drop as the wood matures. The variety is very winter-hardy and, as a result, is widely used in Scandinavia.
The flowers are cream with a yellow center, semi-marginal, set against small dark green leaves. Spring-flowering variety for large gardens.
Shade-harvesting variety.
