More information
Flammentanz descends from kordesii and Rosa rubiginosa, both used by Kordes in the breeding of bush roses. It is non-remontant (flowers once). The cultivar shows strong winter hardiness and is widely grown in Scandinavia, where shorter seasons make repeat bloom less critical than in regions with longer rose-growing periods. Flowers are about 8 cm across, deep red, borne in clusters of 3–7 on a stiff, prickly shrub. Growth forms a sprawling shrub or a low climbing rose. Foliage is bright green; chlorosis may appear; the cultivar is hardy.
The blooms are dense red, bright, persistent, large (8 cm), double (25–40 petals), lightly fragrant, in inflorescences of 3–16. Leaves are dark green, very large, leathery. Shrubs are vigorous, up to Z m tall. Flowering lasts 30–35 days with many blooms. Winter-hardy. Resistant to fungal diseases. Suitable for group plantings, vertical landscaping, and solitary specimens.
