More information

Many years after its breeding, Europeana remains widely grown. The cultivar is characterized by large brushes of bright crimson blooms contrasted with young reddish foliage. Plantings with white polyanthus roses or silver-leaved polyanthus provide a marked color contrast. Individual flowers are relatively small, but they appear in great numbers, in brushes of 10–30. Blooms are rosette-shaped and remain on the plant for a long time. The bush re-blooms quickly, and the flowers do not burn out or turn brown in the sun, so Europeana is widespread in hot countries. The foliage matures to dark green and shiny, and the variety shows vigorous growth and disease resistance.

Used as a brightly colored accent plant, this abundantly flowering floribunda produces semi-marginal or terry cup-shaped rosettes about 7–8 cm in diameter in a very pure red. When fully open, the flowers reveal a bunch of bright yellow stamens in the center. Large brushes of flowers appear from early summer until the first frost. Fragrance is light or absent. Europeana’s foliage keeps its red tint for an unusually long time, turning dark green only just before the flowers at the ends of the shoots unfold. The bush is dense and rounded, 60–90 cm tall and wide. Suitable for beds and borders; grows well in a container. Apply disease prevention.

A low-growing rose that is very commonly grown; huge brushes of dark red blooms appear regularly throughout the year. Classified as a floribunda in red. Often used as a primary red floribunda in plantings.
