More information
Eugen Furst is a remontant hybrid. Its crimson coloration varies markedly by year, climate, and season. It is usually dark red–raspberry with a bright red cast, sometimes appearing dark pink or cherry, then fading to lilac, especially in heat. Flowers are borne in small clusters of 3–9 on short pedicels, creating dense trusses where blooms may not have enough space to open fully. The cultivar performs better in dry weather, when its pale green foliage shows reduced susceptibility to black spot. After the first abundant bloom, one or two flowers typically remain on the bush until the next abundant autumn bloom.
Buds are rounded and pointed. Flowers are blood-red with a black-velvety tinge, cup-shaped, medium-sized (7–8 cm), double (53–56 petals), very fragrant, in inflorescences of 3–5 on pedicels 30–70 cm long. Leaves are large, dark green, leathery, oval. Spines are varied in type and light-colored. Shrubs are very tall (1.5 m), upright. Winter-hardy. Suitable for groups and for cutting. Rare in fragrance.
