More information
The variety remains common in Germany, but its distribution elsewhere is limited, attributed to the name. It is a dark red hybrid tea rose with large blooms and a pronounced fragrance. The petals are not long enough for exhibition, but the blooms hold well as cut flowers and display wavy petal edges when fully open. Occasionally, darker, velvety markings appear on the petals. Flowers usually appear singly, sometimes in clusters of 3-4. It withstands rain well, but in cold regions it can freeze if the summer was not hot enough and the wood did not have time to mature. The foliage is dark green and glossy, and the bush is strong and upright. Used as a bedding rose.
