More information
Bright scarlet with an old gold color. Shiny, dark green foliage. Vigorous, disease-resistant shrub. Light fragrance. Matches Utrillo, Pisarro, and Monet in compositions. Height 60–80 cm.
One of the novelties of the Les Roses Peintres series, dedicated to Edgar Degas. Individual buds display coloration that can include tones appearing brown; in the opened flower, the initial bud coloration is absent. Features include glossy leaves, strong growth vigor, and very abundant flowering.
Degas believed: “… to bear good fruit, it is necessary, like a tree, to put down deep roots, i.e. all your life to stay in place with outstretched hands and open heart, to absorb everything that happens, what surrounds you and live it.” The cultivar name references this artist. The flowers present blood-red hues and a free, painterly form, and the variety shows health and an almost uninterrupted blooming habit. The fragrance is light, with notes reminiscent of raspberry and blackcurrant leaves. Vigorous growth and high leaf quality.
