Hybrid Perpetual rose with dark red flowers, crimson shading, and a red center. Blooms have a strong fragrance, an average diameter of about 10 cm, and are large, full, cupped, and high-centered, with 26–40 petals. It has occasional repeat bloom later in the season. The shrub grows to about 120 cm in height and 90 cm in width. It is suitable for USDA zone 4b and warmer and can be planted in partial shade for best color. The variety is shade tolerant. Bred in France by Louis-Xavier Granger before 1864 and introduced in France by Charles-Félix Verdier in 1864 as 'Duc de Wellington', and in Australia by George Brunning - St. Kilda Nurseries in 1873 as 'Duke of Wellington'.
