More information
A widely grown red hybrid tea rose from the final decades of the 20th century. Duftzauber 84 bears large, well-formed, cup-shaped blooms in a deep, non-scorching, saturated red; occasional dark, velvety markings can appear along the petal edges. Blooms present well both half-open and fully open. They appear singly, and sometimes two or three together, on long, strong, upright shoots suitable for cutting. The fragrance is strong, sweet, fruity, and carries over a distance. Foliage is large, dark green, and slightly glossy. The bush is upright, robust, and re-flowers quickly.
Newly opened blooms are dense dark crimson. The color remains stable in hot sun and is scarcely affected by rain. In the last few days before fading, the color lightens, becomes less intense, and shows a bluish-red cast; flowers at this stage are best removed. Round in outline, each bloom with more than 45 petals reaches 11 cm in diameter. The fragrance is light. Flowers occur singly and in cyst-like inflorescences, with no more than five roses per cluster. There are two waves of abundant bloom during the season. Suitable for flowerbeds, gardens, and sites where tall bushes are appropriate. Bushes can become very tall. The variety has vigorous shoot growth and active branching. Plants can reach 1.2-1.8 m in height and 75 cm-1.1 m in width. Avoid shade, as plants will stretch toward the light and grow taller than usual. Leaves are dark green, numerous, large, and very glossy, creating a dense foliage effect. Generally resistant to most diseases; in the second half of the season it can be affected by black spot.
