More information
The origin is disputed: most sources attribute it to the Damask Perpetual group, while Louis Leveque considered it a Portland rose.
A nearly round, uniform shrub with bright green, matte, leathery foliage. Flowers have an old-fashioned, somewhat flattened form, are medium-sized, and strongly fragrant. The color is described as purplish-red or bright pink, with a lilac tinge on the outermost petals. In rainy weather, the blooms become almost spherical, ball-like as the petals bend back.
Blooms, depending on location, from late spring to early summer in a heavy flush, then occasional single flowers until September.
Propagated by spring and summer cuttings, scions, and aerial layering, among other methods.
Although intended for Zone 6 and warmer, the Swedish Rose Society recommends it for northern Sweden.
