More information
Louis Lens was the first to use Rosa filipes in hybridization. One of the earliest hybrids incorporating it is Dentelle de Malines, a profusely flowering shrub that can also be trained as a low-blooming pleached rose. The individual blooms are small, flat, double, similar to those of noisette roses. The color opens bright pink, then fades to white. The petals are paler on the reverse and bleach more quickly. Flowers are borne in very large clusters, usually 30–60 per truss, and the weight of bloom causes the shoots to bend. In autumn, hips ripen. The foliage is long and thin; the bush is spreading and produces long shoots in all directions.
The variety resembles musk hybrids but blooms only once. The flowers are lightly scented. The shrub is tall, with dark green foliage, and is commonly planted in groups in large flower beds.
