More information
Breeding red roses is challenging, and Darcey Bussell was introduced as a highly disease-resistant red cultivar. It produces very abundant, long-lasting blooms. The outer petals set themselves in a clearly defined ring around the inner calyx. Gradually, the petals bend downward, forming a full rosette. The color is a saturated crimson, taking on a lilac cast immediately before the petals drop. The fragrance is fruity, with notes of green. The plant makes a low, well-branched shrub suitable for the front of borders, for group plantings within a flowerbed, and for growing in a large container. It is the first double crimson rose introduced since William Shakespeare 2000 and suits gardeners who prefer a more compact bush.
