More information
Claire Rose is an English rose with a traditional bloom form—densely petalled, softly colored, and comparable to Souvenir de la Malmaison. The flowers are slightly flattened, with masses of small petals. They may appear singly, but more often in clusters of up to 5, with branches drooping under their weight. The color is consistently deeper at the center, where shadowing between petals produces a dark pink hue. Suitable for bouquets. The shrub is vigorous; in hot climates it reaches 2.5 metres and responds well to pegging shoots to the ground. In humid climates, powdery mildew may occur.
The cultivar bears flowers similar to Souvenir de la Malmaison: warm soft pink, densely petalled, and flat. It is considered fragrant. The bush is strong-growing, dense, and upright. Planting perennials at the base helps cover the bare lower shoots. In wet weather the blooms are badly damaged. As a cut flower, stems last for more than a week.
