More information
Two German breeders collaborated in the history of Cerise Bouquet. The cultivar was bred by Matthias Tantau in the 1930s through experiments with unusual rose species. Tantau passed a number of plants to Wilhelm Cordes but decided against commercial propagation of the variety. Cordes also worked on hybridising unusual species and, having forgotten that Cerise Bouquet had originated with Tantau, introduced the rose 20 years later. This large, single-blooming rose has remained in cultivation since. Cherry and crimson blooms appear in clusters on long, thick, arching shoots from the previous year. In full bloom, the shrub displays clusters across the plant. The shoots are very prickly, so the rose is suitable for hedges. The greyish foliage is fine and shows disease resistance, and the shoots are pale green. A very vigorous rose, suitable for solitary planting on a lawn or at the edge of a lake.
