More information

This Noisette × remontant hybrid is very winter-hardy, yet performs best in hot climates, where it can reach its maximum size. Boule de Neige forms thick buds marked with red streaks; newly opening blooms show a faint pink flush in the center until they open wide to display numerous short, glossy white petals. The very full, slightly tousled flowers later reflex their outer petals, so the blooms resemble snow-white spheres. Despite the high petal count, the petals are thin and delicate and are vulnerable to rain. Flowers come in large, dense clusters of 5–20 on an upright shrub with dark green, shiny foliage. Short internodes create the impression of a compact plant, while the shoots are brittle and break easily.

Medium-sized, cluster-borne blooms with densely waved petals present a camellia-like form; with age, the petals bend back and the bloom becomes spherical. The shrub is graceful, compact, and upright, to about 1.5 m in height and 1 m in width, with smooth, bright green foliage. Buds are bright red. Flowering is almost continuous. Numerous blind shoots may occur under poor care.

This Bourbon rose bears milky-white flowers 7–8 cm across with over 100 petals. As the symmetrical blooms open, the outer petals curve downward, giving each flower a rounded outline and revealing a green button at the center. The fragrance is intense. Boule de Neige flowers for several weeks in early summer, with individual blooms following later. Glossy, dark green, leathery foliage on spiny, branching shoots accompanies the white flowers. The shrub is upright and graceful. It can be trained on a support as a plaited rose, especially because the blooms droop. Shows disease resistance, though black spot can occur in damp conditions.
