More information

Bobbie James is a small-flowered rambler with a species-like look, but with larger and more double blooms. English rose grower Graham Thomas (then at Sunningdale Nurseries) found the seedling in the Yorkshire garden of Lady Serena James and named it in honor of her husband, Robert James, who died in 1960. The flowers are semi-double, reminiscent of cherry blossom, and are produced in very large numbers in broad clusters. Numerous small orange-red hips follow. The foliage is bright green and glossy, often hidden when the plant is in bloom because of the abundance of flowers. Each bloom has a central tuft of golden stamens and a strong musk fragrance. Commonly trained up an old tree; in favorable conditions Bobbie James can reach 8 m.

A vigorous rose, reaching about 7.5 m in height and 3 m in width. It flowers in large clusters of creamy white blooms with two to three rows of petals and a strong fragrance. Plant only where there is sufficient space for a rose of this size. Provide a support capable of carrying the weight of the leaves and flowers. Winter-hardy and suitable for cold climates.

This variety resembles Rosa multiflora, but the flowers are much larger and have a musky scent. It blooms once, yet so profusely that the foliage may be concealed beneath the flowers. Individual blooms open slowly over a fortnight. Plants can take several years before flowering for the first time.

An early-summer, free-flowering climber with slender, light green canes up to 5 m that need tying or support. The leaves are apple green. White semi-double flowers about 5 cm in diameter with golden stamens and a fresh, fruit-like aroma. Suitable for training into trees and over tall arches.

A small-flowered white rambler with neat semi-double blooms about 4.5 cm across, carried in large, dense corymbs and reminiscent of cherry blossom. The plant is very vigorous, reaching about 7 m, with abundant large, bright green, glossy foliage; during flowering the mass of white blooms can obscure the leaves. Flowers show bright golden stamens and a pronounced musk fragrance.

Shade-tolerant variety.
