In 1958 Wilhelm Cordes bred two shrubs, Black Boy and Blue Boy. Black Boy is no longer in commerce, while Blue Boy blooms only once per season. The bush is not tall, with large, modern-shaped flowers combining rich crimson and purple shades set against greyish foliage. Very fragrant.
Buds are oval. Flowers are dark purple, goblet-shaped with a high center, large (9 cm), double (40 petals), very fragrant, solitary and in inflorescences of up to 4. Leaves are bright, light green, shiny. Spines are thin, straight, hook-shaped. Shrubs reach up to 1 m in height, upright. Flowering is moderate to abundant, not repeated. Low winter hardiness is reported.
