More information

Blanche Moreau very seldom blooms more than once per season and is effectively once-flowering. The flowers are pure white, with a slight pink tint at opening; they are rain‑sensitive and the sepals and pedicels are densely covered with hard, dark “moss.” Blooms appear in small, tight clusters of 3–5. Training is by bending the long, graceful, flexible shoots and pegging them to the ground. The shrub is very prickly, has dark green foliage, and is susceptible to powdery mildew.

A vigorous shrub with slender shoots, reaching about 1.5 m in height and 1 m in width. A moss rose with pure‑white, densely brushed, camellia‑like flowers with a button eye; the flowers are sweet‑scented and carried in small clusters. It flowers once in summer, with occasional weak repeat in autumn. Mulching and ample watering help full flower development; protection from powdery mildew is required.

Buds are densely covered with moss‑like glandular hairs. Flowers are pure white, rounded‑cup‑shaped, medium‑sized (5–6 cm), double (35–50 petals), fragrant, borne singly or in inflorescences of up to 6, on stout pedicels. Leaves are large, dark green, dense, leathery, slightly wrinkled, composed of 5 leaflets; the reverse side is pubescent. Prickles are solid, thin, and of varying sizes. Shrubs reach up to 1.5 m high and are compact. Flowering is moderate. Does not set fruit.
