More information
Originally bred as a cut rose, Black Magic is also popular as a garden rose in hot, dry climates, including Australia, California, and South Africa. The buds are so dark they appear almost black. Even as they open, the blooms are black-red, and only the very central petals can be described as red, or more precisely very dark crimson. The flowers are medium-sized, with down-curved petals, appearing singly or sometimes in clusters of up to 4. The bush is vigorous, elongated, upright, with dark green, disease-resistant foliage and bronze young growth. It is widespread in the Netherlands for the domestic cut market: the flowers last up to 14 days in a vase.
