Lilac and purple tones.
Raised by Daniel August Schwarzkopf (Germany, prior to 1806).
Gallica/Proven.
Blooms are mauve-pink, lilac, and purple, paler at the edges. Strong scent. Medium-sized blooms. Once-blooming in spring or summer.
Height up to 120 cm. Width up to 90 cm.
Hardy in USDA zones 4 to 8b. Sets hips.

DNA testing indicated a close relationship to 'Officinalis'.
This cultivar is planted in the gardens of Empress Josephine at Malmaison.
