More information

Baby Masquerade is characterized by variable color. The flowers open yellow with coral-pink margins. As they develop, the petals curve downward, the yellow fades, and red tones appear until the blooms are uniformly dull red. Some flowers may bleach with age. The reverse of the petals is consistently paler, and the outer petals change color more than the inner ones. The cultivar is disease resistant, very free-flowering, with finely textured foliage.

Baby Masquerade is a miniature counterpart of its progenitor, Masquerade. Introduced in 1956, it bears multi-colored flowers that transition from yellow to pink and then to crimson. Color effects vary with the season. Foliage is dark green and glossy.

Buds are oval. Blooms are lemon-chrome, shifting to rose-red, cup-shaped to open, medium-sized (3–4 cm), double (38–42 petals), faintly fragrant, and produced in inflorescences of 3–12. Leaves are dark green, leathery, shiny, with acuminate, slightly recurved tips. Bushes are low (20–35 cm), compact, and strongly branched. Flowering is abundant. Winter-hardy. Resistant to fungal diseases. Suitable for groups, borders, and pot culture.
