The variety is named in honor of Anna Yaroslavna, or Anna of Kiev—the youngest of the three daughters of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of Kiev, wife of the French King Henry I, and Queen of France.
Anna von Kiew is a hybrid tea rose with white, double flowers and a strong fragrance. The shrub is vigorous and upright, and does not flop. The foliage is dark green and glossy. The variety shows disease resistance. The flowers last well when cut.
