More information
The breeders Jean-Charles and Pierre Orard created this cultivar and released it in 1996, naming it for the historian Anita Pereire. A few years later it received multiple awards in the United States, where it was marketed as Starry Night. Reports note sales of more than 200,000 plants in its first year on the U.S. market. The flowers are unbranched, pure white, with a small cluster of bright yellow stamens at the center, and they appear almost continuously throughout the summer. Blooming is very abundant, at times covering the foliage. Each petal is slightly recurved at the margin, giving the blooms a distinctive appearance. Inflorescences form in large clusters of 5–20 on shoots about 25 cm long. Petals drop cleanly. The shrub is spreading, increasing more in width than in height. The cultivar shows disease resistance in hot, dry conditions, but in cold, wet weather it is susceptible to powdery mildew and black spot.
