More information

Angela (registration name KORday) is a Floribunda shrub rose cultivar bred by Reimer Kordes in Germany in 1975 and introduced there in 1984 by W. Kordes’ Söhne under the name ‘Angela’. It was certified under the ADR system in 1982.

Flowers are small to medium, averaging about 3.8 cm in diameter, with up to about 35 petals. Color is generally rose-pink to pale pink, with lighter pink centers and light pink highlights; some descriptions note a carmine-pink to semi-maroon tone and a distinct contrast between the red or crimson outer side of the petals and the pink center. Blooms are strongly calyx-shaped or cupped, often concave, semi-double to double, and typically do not open fully. They are borne in very large, tight clusters (trusses/inflorescences). The cultivar has a mild fruity fragrance and flowers continuously throughout the season.

The plant forms a medium-sized, bushy shrub with a well-branched structure. Foliage is medium green, glossy, and neat in appearance. Typical height ranges from about 80 cm to 300 cm, with a width of up to about 80 cm. In cold climates, the plant tends to remain fairly upright; in warmer climates, it can develop into a taller, arching shrub up to about 2 m and can be used as a climbing rose. Descriptions note that the shrub can be wider than it is tall and can cover the ground effectively. It is characterized as hardy, healthy, and vigorous.

Angela performs well in a wide range of climates, from cold continental to Mediterranean, and is suitable for USDA hardiness zones 5b and warmer. It is used in beds and borders, group and single plantings, containers, as a cut flower, as a garden shrub, and where a ground-covering or arching shrub form is desired.
