More information
Many purple pleached roses were bred in the early 20th century. Amethyste remains widely distributed in cultivation. The flowers are crimson‑purple at opening and fade to purple, with numerous white streaks visible on the petals. At first the blooms are compact in form; later they become dishevelled, then brown and wither on the bush, so that there are often more brown than purple blooms present on the plant. The flowers appear in large, airy, conical inflorescences, borne as clusters that are oriented strictly upwards. The foliage is bright green, and the shoots are quite smooth in texture and appearance. The cultivar roots readily; propagation by cuttings is easy and straightforward.
