This species rose has cream to white flowers with yellow stamens and mild fragrance. Blooms have about five petals, are single and flat, and average about 7.5 cm in diameter. It flowers once in spring or summer. The plant is armed with thorns or prickles, forms a bushy, upright, well-branched shrub, and can produce suckers on its own roots. The foliage is matte with attractive autumn color and usually has 7 to 9 leaflets. It reaches about 120 to 185 cm in height. It is hardy in USDA zone 4a and warmer, can be used as a hedge, landscape, or shrub rose, is drought resistant, and produces decorative hips. It is described as disease resistant, requiring little care beyond pruning out dead wood.
