More information
Alpine Sunset is noted for large blooms and long intervals between flowering waves. The blooms have classic hybrid tea rose form, with buds that are slightly more rounded than usual for the type. Petals are deep golden yellow on the upper surface and more orange or pink on the reverse, producing an overall apricot or peach effect. Flowers are borne on long stems, either singly or in small clusters (rarely more than four). After an extended pause, rebloom follows, often in larger clusters. The bush is narrow, with relatively few shoots, and vigor is modest.
Buds are slightly pointed, yellow with red. Flowers are multicoloured, creamy yellow outside and peachy pink inside, of classic form, large (10–12 cm), double (40–45 petals), very fragrant, solitary or in inflorescences, on sturdy pedicels. Leaves are shiny, leathery, and healthy. Bushes are vigorous and upright. Flowering ranges from moderate to abundant. Suitable for group plantings and for cutting. Int. in 1980.
