Buds open slowly. Flowers are blood-red, cup-shaped, large (8–9 cm in diameter), double (30–35 petals), borne on strong pedicels, with a weak fragrance. Shrubs are vigorous and spreading. Leaves are large, dark green, and leathery. Flowering is moderate and prolonged, occurring in flushes throughout the growing season. The cultivar is classified as a grandiflora rose and is used for ornamental planting and for cut flowers.

This rose was bred by Vera Nikolaevna Klimenko in the former USSR in 1959. Its parentage is ‘Vercors’ (hybrid tea, Mallerin, 1946) × ‘Kordes’ Sondermeldung (floribunda, Kordes, before 1943).
