More information

Several of Noak's groundcover roses are marketed internationally under the Flower Carpet series name. Alcantara is sold as Red Flower Carpet in English-speaking countries and markets; each cultivar in the series can be treated individually for description. Alcantara bears red, unbranched flowers with a central cluster of golden stamens and small white streaks on the petals. Blooms are produced in large numbers in clusters of 5–15, more or less continuously, followed by red fruits during ripening. In hot climates, such as Australia, Alcantara flowers year-round without interruption. Foliage is small, dark green, glossy, and exhibits disease resistance. The shrub is branched and very prickly, with numerous prickles; it does not suppress weed growth and grows more like a spreading floribunda than a typical groundcover rose. Suited to container use and mixed plantings.
