Alain is a red floribunda. Named in honour of Alan Meighan, then a young boy and now head of the House of Meighan. The flowers are bright red, opening to reveal the midrib, with bright yellow stamens that contrast with the petals. They appear in loose clusters of up to 9, and flowers are produced in abundance. The foliage is dark green and the shrub is strong-growing.
Buds are oval. Flowers are carmine-red, bright, medium-sized (6–7 cm), double (23–29 petals), faintly fragrant, in large inflorescences of 3 to 15. Leaves are dark green, leathery, semi-glossy. Shrubs are very tall (70–80 cm), straight, dense, symmetrical. Flowering is very abundant. Winter-resistant. Very susceptible to powdery mildew. For groups. Geneva, gold medal, 1948
